Who We Are: The Panther One team is a subunit of the Analytics team within the University's Pitt Digital organization. We support the Pitt Athletics Department through best-in-class data, analytics, and research & development — building and applying advanced technologies that drive revenue generation, competitive excellence, and operational efficiency.
Who we are looking for: We are seeking a Data Scientist who combines strong analytical capabilities with strong business acumen. You bring experience working with business data (financial, marketing, product, etc.) and quantitative modeling, and you're excited to apply those skills in a sports context. You are curious, approach problems with ingenuity, and thrive in rapidly changing environments.
What you will work on: You will apply data science, analytics, and applied AI to support revenue generation and operational efficiency across Pitt Athletics. Your work will focus on developing models and analyses for defined business and decision problems and partnering with engineering teammates to deploy solutions into tools, workflows, and processes. Projects will span across Ticketing, Marketing, NIL, Fundraising, Operations, and other areas.
Who you will work with: The employee will collaborate closely with its Panther One team members including data engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists to build solutions. This position should expect to work regularly with Athletics executives and department staff.
Required Technical Experience: Strong SQL proficiency with cloud data warehouse experience (Snowflake preferred); Proficiency in Python (preferred) or R for statistical analysis & modeling; developing quantitative models to inform revenue & operational decision-making (including the application of AI/ML techniques; preferred); data visualization (Tableau preferred); version control systems (GitHub preferred). Must be able to 'translate' between technical and non-technical parties.
Desired, but not mandatory - Experience working in revenue or analytics function in sports, entertainment, or sports tech industries; Experience using GenAI tools to enhance productivity & operational efficiency, staying current on AI advancements (Claude preferred).

Job Summary
Performs research, analysis, and modeling on organizational data and data sets utilizing advanced statistical methods to mine and analyze complex and unstructured data sets. Offers complex analysis and utilizes advanced algorithms and statistical software. Adheres to all protocols.
Essential Functions
Working with PC related hardware equipment, software applications and telephony video conferencing systems. Written and verbal communication. Interpersonal relations. Analyzing and organizing information. Proficient knowledge of IT.
Physical Effort
Generally sedentary desk work with computer-keyboard video phone other than traveling to other buildings on campus for meetings/events on occasion. Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
