Description
The Research Technologies Advanced Visualization Lab (UITS RT AVL) team is a group of highly skilled visualization professionals who work to support research, teaching, and educational outreach for UITS. Our team specializes in the digitization of objects through capture technologies such as automated photography systems, structured light scanning devices, Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI), and volumetric data sets captured by medical scanners. We also design and install innovative advanced visual display systems such as multi-panel large-scale systems, projection mapping, and interactive kiosks. Our third area of expertise is in the segmentation and visualization of scientific, informational, and research data with High-Performance Computing (HPC) applications, providing new insights into data transformation. Our team combines these skills and experience into an innovative consulting model we effectively apply to all IU (Indiana University) campuses, faculty, researchers, and students.Job Summary

Additional Information
One of our current initiatives is to deploy an automated photo-capture system and data processing pipeline, called "Cook", originally developed by the Smithsonian Institute. Processing 3D models can be tedious. For tasks such as mesh decimation, creation of UV coordinates, map baking, and file conversion, dozens of tools are available. There is currently no "one size fits all solution. Often it takes a lot of expertise, time and patience to find a chain of tools which work nicely together.
Simplifies the processing of 3D model, mesh, and texture data by providing a simplified interface for about a dozen of the most widely used processing tools. Recipes define processing workflows, where a set of files is processed by multiple tools.
The Cook is implemented as a Node.js server and can be controlled via web API, a web user interface, or via command line tool.
