About the Role
As an R&D Scientist, you will lead efforts in microbial characterisation and fermentation process development. Your work will be central to our product pipeline, involving day-to-day microbial culture maintenance, strain typing, fermentation optimisation, and in vitro testing. You’ll be part of a collaborative, curious team where your problem-solving and lab expertise help shape innovative solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain microbial cultures and cell banks to support research and production goals
Perform detailed phenotypic and genotypic characterisation of microbial strains
Design, execute, and optimise fermentation processes to improve product performance and scalability
Conduct in vitro assays to evaluate raw materials and microbial functions
Analyse data carefully, prepare clear reports, and keep meticulous documentation
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to continually improve research and product development
What We’re Looking For
Degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or related discipline (postgraduate qualifications a bonus)
Solid hands-on experience with microbial cultivation, strain characterisation, and fermentation techniques
Familiarity with in vitro testing methods and laboratory-scale fermentation
Strong attention to detail and a pragmatic, problem-solving mindset
Adaptability and enthusiasm for working in a fast-moving startup environment
Desirable Skills
Experience or knowledge in microbial genomics or related molecular biology techniques
Experience managing or mentoring a small team, with ability to support and develop colleagues
