Description

The Research Scientist will work with foundations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to design, implement, and assess evidence-based interventions and evaluations that promote organizational learning and program improvement. The Research Scientist will carry out research tasks such as instrument development, data collection, data analysis, and data visualization including the ability to explain findings and interventions to a wide range of audiences. The Research Scientist will also facilitate evaluation planning with clients to ensure that the data collection methods are culturally appropriate and that the findings are useful. In addition, this person will play an active role both in identifying and developing, submitting, and managing new grant opportunities.



Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in psychology, sociology, education, public health, or related field. 
  • Five years of experience implementing and evaluating programs related to violence prevention and increasing community safety. 
  • Must have a strong background in a variety of evaluation approaches and research methods (including both quantitative and qualitative analysis) with the ability to analyze various forms of data to determine the source of violence as well as to assess the effectiveness of interventions. 
  • A community-based participatory action research experience is a must. 
  • The candidate must be able to clearly communicate evaluation-related concepts and findings in oral and written form in a professional manner, while also demonstrating excellent listening skills and a comfort working with a range of individuals within both the community setting (e.g., elected officials, practitioners, youth and families, previously incarcerated, and residents) and the university (e.g., faculty, graduate students, administration). 
  • Because of the nature of community-based research, in-state traveling may be required depending upon the evaluation project. 
  • Must have a successful track record of writing, submitting, and administering grants.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience partnering with both law enforcement and community leaders to strengthen relationships and collaboration between law enforcement and the communities they serve. 
  • Experience in developing and providing training and technical assistance to community partners on evidence-based approaches to preventing and/or reducing violence including gun, grant, open drug market, intimate partner, and human trafficking.
