The Acoustical Society of America (ASA) will be running a 10-week PAID summer undergraduate research program for students interested in the area of Acoustics. This intensive summer program in acoustics is designed for undergraduate students.
This program will emphasize training, mentoring, research, and preparing students for graduate studies & careers in acoustics.
To be considered for the SURIEA Program, all applicants must complete the full SURIEA Application.
PROGRAM BENEFITS
A take-home stipend of $5000.
A housing stipend commensurate to research site.
In-person acoustic fundamentals short course in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 15-18, 2026.
In-person experience, working closely with a mentor in acoustics.
Virtual networking and professional development
TIME COMMITMENT
Approximately 40 hours per week for 8-10 weeks between May 28 – Aug 07, 2026.
Weekly cohort meetings conducted virtually during the summer.
Participate in an upcoming ASA meeting. Registration fees waived by the SURIEA program and travel funds provided. This requirement is in place to comply with the law governing the use of specific funds provided by mentors.
Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a 2- or 4-year institution, including community colleges.
Have completed at least two semesters of undergraduate education by the time of the summer experience.
Faced significant barriers to opportunities in STEM fields.
At least 18 years old at the start of the program.
Interested in acoustics.
U.S. citizenship is required for all candidates. Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. without restriction. This requirement is in place to comply with the law governing the use of specific funds provided by mentors.
