Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in cancer biology, immunology, pharmacology, chemical biology, biomedical sciences, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
Position Summary
The Department of Chemistry in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate Research Scientist. This is a 12-month appointment in Athens, Georgia, with an anticipated start date in November 2026. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Jin Xie and collaborating investigators to advance cancer therapeutic development, immunotherapy, and translational chemical biology.
The successful candidate will lead the preclinical evaluation of new cancer therapeutics and combination strategies designed to enhance antitumor immunity. Responsibilities include designing and conducting in vitro, three-dimensional tumor organoid, and in vivo studies; evaluating therapeutic mechanisms, efficacy, dosing, pharmacodynamic responses, and treatment resistance; and applying appropriate xenograft, orthotopic, metastatic, syngeneic, and patient-derived xenograft models. The position will provide scientific leadership for research supported by two NIH grants and one Department of Defense grant, including experimental planning, data analysis and interpretation, troubleshooting, manuscript preparation, grant-related reporting, and coordination of research milestones.
The appointee will contribute to the Department's broader chemical biology program by connecting chemical and nanomaterial innovation with mechanistic biology and therapeutic evaluation. Responsibilities also include developing collaborative projects with investigators at UGA , Emory University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; generating preliminary data and preparing competitive grant applications; and serving as principal investigator, co-investigator, or other key personnel, as appropriate. The successful candidate will mentor graduate students and other trainees in cancer biology, tumor immunology, organoid and animal models, molecular imaging, and quantitative assessment of therapeutic response while ensuring compliance with institutional research and animal-use requirements.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to independently design, execute, and interpret mechanistic and preclinical cancer studies; proficiency in conducting in vitro cancer assays and in vivo tumor-model studies; a record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant research areas; scientific leadership in externally funded research; and trainee mentoring.
Competitive applicants will demonstrate expertise in cancer immunotherapy, tumor organoid culture, and advanced mouse tumor models; the ability to integrate molecular imaging and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic approaches into therapeutic evaluation; and a record of contributions to successful grant proposals and interdisciplinary research. Expertise in immune profiling, immune-checkpoint therapy, and targeted or nanoparticle-based cancer therapeutics is preferred. Strong scientific writing, quantitative analysis, project coordination, and communication skills are essential.
